PART OF LINWOOD TENNIS COURTS TO BE TAKEN BY COUNCIL.

The City Council intends to take possession of a portion of the Linwood Lawn Tennis Club’s courts to widen Stanmore Road. The action is being taken under the provisions of the Public Works Act. The Finance Committee reported that, in reference to the two remaining properties requiring to be dealt with in widening the west side of Stanmore Road between Worcester Street and the river Avon—those of the Linwood Lawn Tennis Club and of Mr G. W. Skellerup—the Tennis Club had not replied’to the council’s letter asking it to reconsider its decision not to sell the necessary strip of land, and no reply had been received from Mr Skellerup since the council had advised him that it was not considered necessary to move his house further back on his property. The committee recommended that the owners of the land be advised that the council was taking steps to acquire the necessary land under the provisions of the Public Works Act. The report was adopted.
