FREE KINDERGARTENS STAFF SOCIAL.

A re-union of directors, assistants and students of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association was held last night in the Sunbeam Schoolroom, Cornwall Street, when Miss Hull gave an address on the work of the year, which she said had been an important one in the annals of the Association, marked by the refresher course and the opening of the new school in Sydenham. Miss Baster, of the Training College staff, who had examined the students, congratulated them upon the excellence of their work and paid a tribute to Miss Hull. Mrs Thacker, president of the association presented the certificates gained by the Misses R. S. Orange, Joy Bai tram, Constance Lane, Marjorie Page, Annie Shanks, Friedlander, Leah Curtis, Honor Ellis and Grace Bargrove. Miss Hull was given an Early Victorian posy by the second year students and a handbag by the staff. Miss Doxothy Jamieson also received presents. A programme arranged by the students was greatly appreciated. It included a trio, pianoforte solos by Miss Bessie Pollard, two folk dances in Old English costumes and a diverting burlesque of “The Wedding of the Painted Doll” by the students. This was followed by Mrs Jarley’s Waxworks. Miss Mavis Andrew was Mrs Jarley and the figures when their wrappings were removed proved to be many well-known Christchurch identities. A dainty supper was handed round. On view were many of the “project” studies made by the students, including models of the Wigram Aerodrome with the Southern Cross, the Bristol fighters, the hangars and spectators beautifully done to scale by Miss H. Ellis who received the highest marks. Another model was of the Square, every building being shown, and another of a kindergarten school, and a pretty snow scene. Miss Marjorie Lockwood, who is going to Invercargill was farewelled by Miss Hull and the staff. Those present included: Mesdames Thacker, Peppier, Evans, Hadfield, Hood, J. D. Buchanan, G. D. Ellis, T. Gimson, W. Bartram. P. J. Andrew, A. M. West, Orange, Bargrove, David Friedlander, the Misses Hull, Hood, Marsden, Box, Jamieson, Baster, Selbie, Bartram, West, Pollard, Tait, Ladd, Dewar, Holland, Gorrie, and many others.
