RESULTS ANNOUNCED IN KINDNESS TO ANIMALS ESSAY COMPETITION.
Four public schools competed in the essay competition conducted by the Canterbury branch of the Humanitarian and Anti-Vivisection Society of New Zealand. The judge, Miss Jessie Mackay'. said that good work was re ceived from each school. The awards were as follows: Tunior section (Kind Deeds Club) Gwen Lvall (Milford School) 1. and G. Caswell and John Lundie (Sherwood Downs School. Fairlie) equal 2 Commended: Betty Rollinson and Aubrey James, both of Sefton School. Middle section, “Kindness to Animals.” Senior. —Nancy Brown (Belfast School) 1, Vesta Emanuel (Rotherham School) 2. Commended: Lois Blake. Eileen Comyns (both of Belfast School). Junior. —Pat Emanuel (Rotherham School) 1. Ada Ilarland (Rotherham 2. Secondary or private school section Girls.—Joy Ridgen 1. Though not an essay, the work ol Nancy St John was commended for its imaginative and literary quality. The work of Joan Cunningham was al so meritorious. Boys.—A. R.
