MAN WAS WISE TO STAY IN CAR, JUSTICES SAY.
FINE FOR INTOXICATION IN TIMARU CASE.
(Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, June 17. William M’Tier, aged fifty-seven, a company manager, was fined £lO and costs, and his driving license was endorsed, in the Police Court at Timaru this morning for being found in a state of intoxication while in charge of a car. Senior-Sergeant Gibson said that M’Tier was arrested in his car outside the Grosvenor Hotel in Cain’s Terrace on Saturday evening. Defendant pleaded guilty and was represented b Mr W. Raymond. He said that he was sitting in his car when the police arrived, and admitted being under the influence of liquor. He was waiting for a friend, who was to drive him home. If a prohibition order *\vas taken out against him and his license cancelled it would g*~ very hard with him. The presiding Justices, Messrs D. M’Lennan and E F. Holland, in giving their judgment said: “We have conside ed your case carefully and though you have offended we do not regard it as serious. If a man is under the influence of drink he is wise to stop in his car, and it is pity some people d not do the same. However, the offence is serious enough and you are fined £lO and your license is endorsed ”
