HE WAS SHOCKED.
It takes a lot to shock the aged cab horses which stand patiently all day long in Moorhouse Avenue, waiting for fares from the railway station. This morning’s earthquake, however, caused one of these ancient animals to become quite lively. Finding the street rocking below him, he raised one leg gingerly and endeavoured to find a stationary spot in which to place it. He found another spot which he thought was safe, but when this moved also, and the leg just placed slipped, he became rather more hurried in his movements. Before the shock ended, he was doing a prance that would have done him credit in the show ring. The shock over, he glanced round for a minute or two, and then resumed his daily dose, his head and ears falling into their usual dejected attitude.
