A proposal that the Minister of Education be urged to send abroad a responsible officer to investigate educational administration, organisation, and other matters of importance was considered on Friday afternoon bj r the Council of Education, together with a further suggestion that this should be done at regular intervals so that the Dominion may be kept thoroughly acquainted with educational movements abroad. It was pointed out in the course of discussion, that a position of stalemate would arise if any one but the Director of Education was sent, as he could not be expected to recommend drastic changes if he had not had personal observation of their operation abroad. It was also argued that the latter part of the motion was unnecessary, and that the council should do nothing to create the impression that they were not already fairly well acquainted with educational methods in other countries. It was decided to urge the Minister to send the Director abroad as soon as possible for the purpose of investigating educational matters.
