SIDE-CAR PASSENGER INJURED IN SMASH. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, May 27. A motor-cycle ridden by E. Good, who had as a passenger J. Holland, aged 18, in a sidechair, collided with a motor-car driven by John Tully, of Havelock Street, on the Tinwald side of the Ashburton traffic bridge yesterday afternoon. Holland was admitted to the Oakhurst private hospital, suffering from internal injuries and cuts on the head. The driver was not injured. The front of the car was damaged, one wheel being torn off, and extensive damage was done to the sidechair and cycle. Man’s Body Found. The body of John Gilbert, aged 24, who had been missing from Longbeach since Sunday, May 19, was found yesterday with the head in a creek containing about a foot of water, at the back of the homestead. Apparently Gilbert had had a seizure. Motor-cycle Club. The Motor-cycle Club held a run to the mouth of the Rangitata River yesterday, fourteen members taking part. Impromptu sports were held and results were:—Serpentine race—R. Leask and J. Oakley (equal) 1, A. Preddy 3. Acceleration race—J. Oakley 1, G. Healy 2. Euchre Match. A euchre match between the Railway Social Club and the Volunteer Fire Brigade, on Saturday evening, resulted in a win for the brigade by 45 games to 35. Lieutenant Kidd presided. -The following gave items:— Messrs White and Dee, Lieutenant W. Tilley, Firemen Solway and Davis. The visitors were welcomed by the chairman, Mr Grinter responding. « Hospital Board. Mr W. G. Gallagher, this morning, was appointed chairman of the Hospital Committee of the Hospital Board.
