HARBOUR BOARD HOLDS MEETING.
The Lyttelton Harbour Board met to(lav. There’ were present—Messrs R. Galbraith (chairman), W. K. M’Alpine, M. J. Miller, J. R. Hayward, F. Horrell, W. J. Walter, and Captain Munro.
The engineer's report stated that the suction dredge Canterbury dealt with 48,045 tons of spoil, the whole of which
came from the outer channel. On November 31 the starboard dredging pump was fouled by a large iron cotter pin, the casing of the pump having to be opened to remove the obstruction. The dredge was laid up for overhaul and survey on November 2. She was
docked on November 6, and floated out agailn on November 21. The work of overhaul should be completed in about a week’s time. The ship generally was in excellent order, but some of the wearing parts were becoming due for renewal from time to time. The grab dredge Tewhaka removed a total quantity of 4200 tons of spoil.
Thanks for donations was forthcoming from „ the following:—-Young Women’s Christian Association (Lyttelton works). Royal X.Z. Society for Health of Women and Children (Plunket Society), Royal Life Saving Society, St John Ambulance Association, Sumner Lifeboat Institution, Workers’ Educational Association. The treasurer’s statement showed that the ordinary receipts for the eleven months were £101,267, as compared with £96,652 for the correspondingperiod of last year. Recommendations of the Standing salaries of the board’s staff were approved.
