MAYOR WILLING TO CALL CONFERENCE.

PROPOSED CHANGE IN NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS.

“ In my judgment, it is a matter that affects the whole of the citizens, and therefore will need to be very carefully considered,” said the Mayor, the Rev J. K. Archer, to-day, when asked his views regarding the proposal to observe Monday, December 31. as a holiday* instead of Wednesday, January 2. The Mayor added that he had not given the matter a moment’s thought, but if it was thought desirable he would be very glad to call a conference of all the parties interested. He was not, however, prepared to express any abstract opinion until he had looked into the matter from all angles, but he thought it really concerned the shopkeepers most of all.
