CHRISTCHURCH FREE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association was held on May 16 in the Y.W.C.A. rooms, when Mrs 11. Thacker presided over the following:—Mesdames T. E. Taylor, Williams, F. Williamson, Peverill, Empson, Griffiths, Hamlin, K. Hadficld, Dunbier, Martin, St Geo. Atkinson, Misses L. V. Tabart, M. M’llliaith and the secretary.
Correspondence was read from the Dominion secretary of the Kindergarten Union, asking for suitable information on kindergarten matters for the Honolulu conference. Mrs Peppier was instructed to reply, giving a short history of the organisation. A letteT fromthe City Council was read, in which permission' was given to conduct the Daffodil Day street collection on September 19 next. The honorary secretary of St Andrew’s Kindergarten Committee wrote requesting the association to allow them to send a student for training in kindergarten principles and theory. The request was granted. The Sydenham committee reported that the Education Department had approved the site in Queen Street, and suggested that a sketch plan of the proposed school building be submitted. For this purpose they were advised to interview the board’s architect. The secretary v. as given permission to make the necessary inquiries. Miss N. Friedlandcr wrote applying for a position on the staff of Sunbeam Free Kindergarten The New Zealand Council of Women asked for an expression of Opinion as to the desirability of building a crema torium in Christchurch. The vote resuited in nine being in favour of the scheme and five against it. Miss Daw reported that in fwo months she had been successful in collecting £6l with several new subscribers of small sums. She also stated that the public was very interested and sympathetic with the movement.
School reports stated that although there is considerable anxiety amongst parents at tne prevalence of illness, the children had been very free from sickness and attendances had been good and regular. All the committees report social functions; these keep committees, teachers, parents and Children in harmonious touch with one another. Mrs H : Thacker referred to the willing and efficient service that kindergarten students had rendered on Poppy Day.
