At the invitation of Mr and Mrs R. S. Manks, of 5, Edge ware Road, thirty friends were present at a party given in honour of the twenty-first birthday of their son Reg. Mrs Percival Hoare and Mrs Arrowsmith Bromley, of Wellington, are staying at the Federal Hotel prior to leaving for an extended visit to Sydney. Mrs Howard James gave a delightful little party yesterday at “ Beverly,” :ti aid of St George’s Hospital. Canon Wilford attended and sketched the activities of the new institution and expressed the gratitude of the executive for the help that Christchurch was giving then. All present joined the new Society of Friends of St George and arrangements were made for the “ Beverly ” group to see over the hospital. Mrs J. D. Buchanan, at her home in Murray Place, gave a very largely attended conversazione in connection with St George’s Hospital last Wednesday afternoon. It was attended by Mother Alice and Canon Wilford. Mrs Buchanan in introducing the guests, said how interested the whole of Christchurch was in the doings of the hospital. Many questions were answered and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the visitors. The keenness of the Beckenham ladies for St George’s Hospital, the great organising ability of Mr and Mrs Carter and the versatility of the Anglican clergy were fully demonstrated at the Beckenham Hall last evening. The occasion was a children’s party given by Mrs Carter in aid of St George’s Hospital. The d'resses were both varied and exquisitely made and it was most difficult for the judges to decide upon the prizewinners. Then followed an old-fashioned romp and games in which a visiting priest from England showed quite clearly that he could have made his fortune as a ventriloquist.
