CARGO PILLAGING WORST IN AUSTRALIA
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received March 21. 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, March 20. The Pillage Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, in a further report on the pillage of cargo in the United Kingdom. Continent, Australia and New Zealand, reiterates that pillage largely occurs in Australia, and sometimes, also, in the packing warehouse or ship's hold, or in transit between the two. Organisations exist for carrying out thefts undetected. The New Zealand figures ?how a diminution, but attention is still necessary. The trouble extends throughout the world. The thefts are regarded as a peccadillo, rather than a crime. Australian and New Zealand trade shows an improvement, though much remains to be done. The report urges exemplary terms of imprisonment for thieves and receivers. Aust. and N.Z United Service.
