CADET TOOK LETTERS CONTAINING MONEY.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 21. Two charges of stealing registered letters, one containing £5 10s in £1 notes, and the other a money order for 7s 6d. were admitted by a clerk named Robert Patrick Crawford, aged 20. before Mr Page to-day. Accused was a cadet in the Immigration Department for two years before the commission of the offences. A remittance expected by an immigrant to whom money had been advanced did not come to hand and when inquiries were made it was ascertained that accuser! had signed for the letter containing the money. The money order was also due. but did not arrive. Accused said he could not account for the disappearance of the money, but since his arrest he had made restitution of £4 11s lOd He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
