EARTHQUAKE OCCURS EARLY THIS MORNING.

Many residents of Christchurch felt a shock of earthquake in the early hours of the morning. It was sufficiently severe to wake a good many people, but was not, according to Mr Skey, Government Meteorologist, nearly as severe as some of the minor North Canterbury, ’quakes. The exact time of the shock was 1.54 a.m., and it took about one minute for the wave to pass Christchurch. There was no indication of its origin.
