December 29 Illustrating the stern discipline exercised by the Seamen’s Union over its members, the bo’sun of one of the Commonwealth steamers was charged at a meeting with carrying tales about certain happenings in the forecastle to the mate. The bo’sun offered an explanation, but the meeting adjudged him guilty, and ordered him to give twenty-four hours’ notice of his intention to leave the vessel, and also not to seak reemployment in the Commonwealth Line for twelve months. It is understood the bo’sun will undertake to carry out the dictates of the union.
