The Main Highways Board has made the RiCcarton Borough Council an of- f fer of £4OO towards the cost of repairs to the Riccarton Road, provided the council spends a similar sum before the end of February. The council has been spending money on the _ road at the rate of something like £ISOO a year, and it is not in a position at present to spend a further £4OO at such short notice. A request has consequently been made to the Highways Board that the grant should be held over till after April 3, when the council's new year will commence. Mr W. Miller has been appointed assistant manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Christchurch. Lieutenant-Colonel Moore Brabazon has resigned the Parliamentary Secre taryship of the Ministry of Transport in order t- become chairman of a company, say. a London cable.
