TAKING OVER THE OPPOSITION BUSES.
AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL FACES HARD PROBLEM. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, November 26. The City Council i.« faced with a nice proposition in taking over the motorbuses and plant of the proprietors of the various services formerly running in opposition to the municipal services The council decided to make an offm of £5205 to the Mount Eden Motor Bus Company for the Mount Eden see tion of its business. The company asked £12,235 for 11 btises, property and plant. The offer Of £5259 is foi buses and plant- The question of liability to take over land is Kelng referred back for further consideration. In connection with the buses and plant of the Reliance Company, runin.ng services to Point Chevalier, for which the council was asked to pay £5324. it was derided to make an offer of £3412. Messrs Oallagher and Sterling had requested the council to take over the six bnises running in the Point Chevalier-Richmond Road services. The price stated for the buses was £4590 and of the freehold property, £4OOO, with loose tools at valuation. It was bv the city solicitor that the land offered was not. used exclusively Jor the purpose of the service The land was declined, and an offer of £2353 made for the buses and plant. Messrs Peat and Mulligan requested the council to take over the Dominion Service, asking £6643, of which £6600 was for eight buSes. It was decided to make an offer of £2794. The Tramways Committee recommended that the council should decline to take over the G.O.C. section of the . Mount Eden Motor Bus Company’s services <m the ground that the buses were not in substantial competition with the service of the cpuncil. The recommendation was adopted.
