Mrs A. Dowell. Greymouth, is visit ing relatives in Lyttelton. Miss Molly Bean has returned to Christchurch from Dunedin. Mrs IT. van Asch, Bealey Avenue, has returned from an extended holiday visit to Australia. Mrs E. W. Pidgeon, Bealey Avenue, left yesterday for a holiday visit to Dunedin. Mrs Harold Richards, Sydney, is visiting her mother, Mrs 11. East, Papanui Road. Dr Eleanor Baker-M'Laglan, school medical officer of health, has returned from the West Coast. Mrs and Miss Thacker were passengers to Christchurch from the north this morning. Mrs A. Lockie, Napier, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and is registered at the Clarendon Hotel. Mrs E. J. Ross has ieturned to Christchurch after a visit to the Misses Cox, Nile Street, Tiinaru. Mr and Mrs Nicholson, of Wellington, who have been in Christchurch for several days, left for the south today. Mrs IT. Lyon, Kelburn, Wellington, is visiting Christchurch, and is the guest of Mrs R. J. Lyon, Knowles Street. Mr and Mrs R. E. M'Dougall. and the Misses Jean and Nancy M’Dougall, Papanui, intend leaving next month for a holiday visit to Java. Mrs S. Strachan, of Westport, is visiting Christchurch and is staying with Mr and Mrs L. J. Bayfield, Weston Road, St Albans. Mr and Mrs A. Spencer, South Africa. arrived in Christchurch this morning and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Miss B. C. O’Connor, of Christchurch, has been appointed supervisor of the Greymouth Telephone Exchange. Miss Betty Beadcl has returned to Christchurch, after an extended holiday visit to Timaru, where she was the guest of Mrs E. J. Le Cren. The engagement is announced of Ina, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Johnston, “Alanston,” Linwood, to—Horace, only son of Mr and Mrs R. Wright, t», Wairarapa Terrace, Fendalton. Nurse Francis, Salisbury Street, was awarded the first prize for hat making, and highly commended for bag making in section E raffia exhibits at the Dunedin Exhibition. Miss Ollivier, for many years secretary’ of the Cholmondeley Memorial Children's Home, was appointed a life member at the annual meeting of supporters yesterday. Mrs George Rhodes, Christchurch, who returned from Dunedin on Friday, spent a few days with Mrs R. IT. Rhodes, Sealey Street, Timaru, and left yesterday for Cave to stay with her daughter, Mrs Ben Howell. The weekly meeting of the Christchurch Division of the St John Ambulance Brigade was held on Wednesday, Sergeant Clemens presiding over a fair number of members. A profitable evening was spent in demonstrating up-to-date methods in roller bandaging by Mrs Bishop, for head and limb fractures. A good practice by all present ensued. Mrs Bishop was accorded a hearty vote of thinks at the close. The following are among the recent arrivals at the Hotel Federal: —Dr and Mrs Parr. Timaru; Mr and Mrs Sharp, Waiau; Miss B. Simpson, Wellington; Mr J. R, Bruce, Timaru: Air A. and Miss C. Bailey, Wanganui; Messrs 11. Newport and S. Sutton, Richmond; Mr Arthur 11. Smith. Aldershot, England; Mr and Mrs A. Wilson, Coalgate; Mr and Mrs W. M’Corkindale, Sydney; Messrs Miller and Deer, Messrs Lumdray and M'Lean. Messrs Ray and Freeman, Air W. J. Cooper, Green Island; and Mr W. J. Jack, Dunedin. Mrs H. Browne recently gave an enjoyable party to celebrate the com-ing-of-age of her grand-daughter, Kathleen. Mrs Browne wore a charming gown of black satin marocain, the guest of honour having chosen a becoming frock of apricot silk marocain. Amongst those present were :—Mrs Sylvester Bush (Dunedin).
