SENDING BUTTER TO MARKET.
THE NEED OF CONTROL. Per Tress Association. WELLINGTON, Juno 19. Messrs Motion and lorns, members of the l>airy Produce Export Control Board, who have been selected to represent tho board in Loudon, entertained at dinner. Mr Grounds (chairman) emphasised the need for better marketing methods. Air Motion said that ho would do his best in tho interests of tho dairy produce industry. Some of the proposed reforms in marketing methods had been described as “ socialistic ” and “ Communistic, 5 ’ but ho asked would any section of tho business men living in a city consider it good business to manufacture £18,000,000 to £20,000,000 worth of produce and send it to market without some organisation at the market end to protect their interests. Business men who did this would ho thought mad. Mr Nosworthy, Minister of Agriculture, said that tho board’s function was solely to consolidate tho industry. Ho had. no doubt as to the future success of tho meat, dairy and other boards. Mr M’Leod, Minister of Lands, said that Parliament was closely concerned in tho success of tho Dairy Board, whoso powers affected 40 per cent of tho country’s total exports. If success was not achieved, Parliament would have to answer to the country. Ho did not doubt tho board’s ability to secure tho desired results, but ho regretted the apathy shown by sections of tho industry in matters affecting their own business. At the recent election, over 25 per cent did not vole.
