ASSAULT ALLEGED.
WOMAN CLAIMS DAMAGES. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Dorothy Williams, spinster (Mr Tracy), proceeded against Isabella Giles, married woman to recover £lO damages for assault. Plaintiff said that she was walking along Colombo Street on her way home from a euchre party at Sydenham about 10.30 at night, when she heard someone say “there goes that fat Williams.” Witness turned round and she saw a woman whom she afterwards learned was Mrs Giles. Witness inquired if Mrs Giles was refen ing to any one and the defendant said “go home or I’ll smack you up.” There was a woman with Mrs Giies and she inquired “who is this?' Mrs Giles said ! “This is the clique from the football hall.” Some argument followed and Mrs Giles kicked witness on the knee, and on the body. In reply to Mr Tw)'nehara, the witness denied that she had done any thing to provoke the attack. Corroborative evidence was given by Irene Williams, sister of plaintiff, and Cecil Edward Fuller, a clerk. The defendant said that *he and others were calling out to attract the attention of a man who was a brother-in-law of one of the party, and the plaintiff and others weic mocking them. Defendant said “Listen to Ma Williams’s crowd.” The girl Williams came up and said “Do you know who you are talking to.” Defendant admitted telling Mrs Williams that “if she did not drink so. much she would know what she was talking about.” It was after this remark that Mrs Williams said “Smack into her, Dorotl'iy.” (Proceeding.)
