The Buildings Committee reported that the application of the Beckenham School for provision of chairs and tables for the infant department was granted. An application for improved ventilation in the old rooms at the school was referred to the architect for report. An application from the Cashmere Committee for additional accommodation at the school was referred to the j senior inspector for report, f 101 nl,y ( j < 7 :^? llTnittee ’ s application school on the open air principle was referred to the architect for report. A report was received from Messrs Peverill and Thompson, who had visited the Lyttelton Gaol site in conjunction vs-itli the Controller of Prisons. Mr M'Combs, M.P., and borough councillors, regarding the proposal to acquire the north-east wing of the old gaol site in addition to the area alreadv set apart. The report recommended that application be made to the Prisons Department, | through the Education Department, for the balance of the site as suggested, rt was also decided to ask that no more spoil be removed from the site. A letter was received from the committee of the New Brighton Main School, asking if the board and Department would each find one-third towards the erection of a shelter shed ot the school, estimated to cost £7O. the committee to find the balance, rt was resolved to adhere to the decision conveyed to th»> committee in April, viz., that half cost be raised by means of voluntary contributions, on which a subsidy would be available. A deputation from the South New Brighton Committee waited on the Buildings Committee regarding the necessity for the erection of a new schocl at an early date.
