The election at West Derbyshire, which was postponed owing to the death of the original Liberal candidate, resulted in the Conservative candidate, the Marquis of Hartington, gaining the seat from the Liberals- He polled 13,410 votes, and the Liberal candidate polled 12,060 votes. The final state of the parties is:—

Conservatives . 257 Labour . . 192 Liberals . . . 158 Independents 8
