MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.KI.) FREE FOR CHRISTMAS. Chastened, and much less eloquent than usual, Mary M’Kegney appeared for the third time within six months on a charge of drunkenness. When to explain she said that she had just come into town and if she were not sent to gaol she would go straight back to work. She suggested. to the Bench that a fine might well meet the case. The Magistrate : I won’t fine you. or send you to gaol. You are convicted and discharged. GIVEN A CHANCE. Frederick Charles Richmond, a young man, appeared for sentence on three charges of having failed to account to his employer for moneys received. The Magistrate said that the accused, when he had been in trouble before, kept the terms of his probationary release satisfactorily, and had married six months ago. If he were sent away now. it might mean the breaking of a relationship which would probably keep him straight. Richmond was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to pay £4 Is Bd, the amount of the stolen money, within two months. BY-LAW CASES.
