REPORTS TO AUTOMOBILE / ASSOCIATION. / The main roads through the Mount Somers district are open for traffic, according to information which has reached the Canterbury Automobile Association from the County Clerk. At one or two places the roads are a bit rough, but, generally, they are in very lair condition. The letter say's:—“My chairman, Mr Harper, came through from Timaru yesterday, and reported the road ail right, so you may say the road from the north branch of the Ashburton (Black bridge) to Timaru is quite open.” The Clerk to the Mount Hutt Road Board reports that from the Rakaia Gorge bridge (Camping Creek crossing is not workable) the cuttings are in very good order, with the exception of the continual falling of big stones, which motorists should always be on the look-out for. From Mount Hutt Homestead along the top road to ihe Ashburton River (Black bridge) the two creeks on the road are croesable, but care must be taken in crossing them. The road itself has been badly washed by flood water and i 6 rough, but safe.
