AT BLENHEIM
LOSS OF LIFE FEARED. BLENHEIM. May 9. In connection with the flood fear' are entertained for the safety of Air Spring Creek Road Board, and a farm boy, who left Robinson’s farm, Lowei AYairau. last night in a drav for Blenheim. A search party discovered the dray at the roadside in deep water, the horses roaming free with broken harness. Subsequently a vest, presumably worn by Robinson’s companion. ones were discovered. Some o| the grain and produce stores were invaded by the flood with serious results. Thousands of bushels ol peas, seeds and grain are irretrievably mined, and much loss has been caused bv saturation of bales of wool. In one case twenty tons of sugar literal!v melted awav. One dealer in product estimates his loss at €IOOO. The railwav line at Spring Creek is severely damaged. The permanent- wav has been washed out for a distance a hundred yards. Damage- done to roads and bridge.-, throughout the province is enormous. The Blenheim-Kaikoura road is impassable. 'l ire approaches to the Urc bridge have been washed awav.
