THE ESTUARY.
CONFERENCE AGREED TO. At to-day’s meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, a letter was received from the City Council stating that the incoming council hacl been recommended to convene a conference of representatives of the Harbour Board and other bodies interested to consider proposals put forward for the improvement of the estuary and the deepening of the channel at Sumner. The chairman (Mr J. Storr.y) said all the board could do at the present moment was to appoint delegates. They could attend the conference and report to tlio l>oard later. Dr IT. T. Thacker moved that a reply should be sent ‘to the City Council stating that the, board agreed to the conference and that it would appoint delegates. Mr Macartney, in seconding the motion, said the hoard should discuss the matter before sending the delegates to the conference. Dr Thacker said the matter was i nder discussion by the Harbour Improvement Committee. The motion was carried.
