THE PRINCE’S VISIT.

COUNTRY SCHOOL CHILDREN IN CHRISTCHURCH. The Canterbury Education Board has received tho following telegram from the Education Department;—“ Arrangements should be made for the participation of school children in the welcome to the Prince of AA’alcs. Free ™|js' a y passes will bo provided for children of Standard IV. to Standard Vll., and for teachers in charge travelling to various centres from places whore they can conveniently return homo the same day by a train specially provided- It is also proposed to provide a meal for children from a distance. The Government relies on the co-operation of the board, which must arrange for the proper care and supervision of children during journeys. The board should confer with the local officers of the Railway Department regarding train services.” Thn Jjpard will make inquiries from the traffic manager in Christchurch as to which districts are served by trains on which children may return to their homes the same day. TROTTING PERMIT. The Mayor, Dr Thacker, M.P., has forwarded to the Hon AV. P. Alassev Prime and to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the following telegram “Great indignation is being expressed here owing to no trotting permit for the Royal visit. The trotting supporters hero the democrats, and it seems absurd to have two gallopmg meetings instead of one of each. Ibo Prince can at host only see the same horses competing twice, and at their off season; besides, he will see tho nnost gallopers when in Australia that are at this end of the world, and our tn>t|lie>rs 'and pacers WhaJjfcnge tlvo world for excellence. Tho late Alinistor of Internal Affairs promised this permit. Surely the Cabinet will earnout that promise. Please give this vour earnest and favourable consideration.’’
