MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TO-DAY’S SITTING. CHRISTCHURCH. Mr S. E. McCarthy. S.M.. presided at today’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 6s, in default twenty-four hours imprisonment. Thomas Blue and Minnie Brown were qach fined £l, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. “TO BUY BOOTS WITH.” George Barton, a youth, pTbadect guilty to stealing a cheque valued at £2 2s 6d. Sergeant Cassidy said that a man named Hampton had lost a cheque, npd the theft had been, traced to accused, who had cashed the cheque at Hornby, signing it in Hampton’s name. When taxed with the offence, accused admitted it. Accused stated that he had stolen the money to buy a pair of boots with. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, to report to the probation officer weekly for a year, and to remain in his present employment.
