“VERY WIND.”

ACCUMULATED CHARGES. An offender of rather torigihal demeanour appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S-M., this morning. Eis name is Daniel Bonrke, and his offence wag drunkenness. When asked how he pleaded he said:— “ I had a couple of drinks, your orship, but I was 'only a bit noticeable- 1 did not fee! bad. I have work m the country, and should like a chance to go to it. My only offence is drunkenness.” . ' The police, yon see, are a very un- ™ lot, ’ Commented the Magistrate. ‘ They have sent me up a long list of charges. Tell me if you are the same man mentioned in connection with them.” Accused perused the charges, and remarked regretfully that they had apparently accumulated during his somewhnt lengthy sojourn in the country. The Magistrate: “You are a Scotchman, a rent you?” Accused; “No, I was born in Ire--1 ™ , Hl ? volce Proclaimed the fact.) ine Magistrate made some remark about Scotch whisky, and added: , You will be fined £l, in default (* hours iniT>ri9omnent- M 1 rhnnk you. your Wtorshm Thnnk you very much.” said accused as he retired from the dock.
