SHIPPING CASUALTIES
CLAN OGILVY DISABLED. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 21. A wireless message was received from the Moana, which left t Wellington on Friday night for Sydney, stating that the Scales steamer Clan Ogilvy is partially disabled. The Clan Ogilvy is bound from Dunedin to Newcastle for coal. The tug Terawliiti left Wellington shortly before noon to-day with the object of towing the disabled steamer to this port.
The Clan Ogilvy is one of a large fleet of steamers belonging to the Scales Line (Cayzer, Irvine and Company, Glasgow). She is well-known in New Zealand, having recently paid a visit to a number of ports, including Lyttclton, under the direction of Mr G. H. Scales, Wellington. About a fortnight ago the steamer brought a full cargo of coal from Newcastle; to Dunedin for the Union Steam Ship Company, and having completed discharge, left on Tuesday last for Newcastle by way of Cook's Strait, to load a further consignment. The Clan Ogilvy is commanded by Captain Swanston. She was built at Glasgow in 1896 by Messrs A. Stephen and Son. Her dimensions are as follow:—Leneth, 312 ft Gin, breadth 40ft 2in, and depth 23ft sin, with a tonnage of 2641 tons.
