Monday, October 18. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) Obtaining Liqt/or. — John H. Naish beaded guilty, to a charge of having irocured liquor during .the currency of i prohibition, order against him. Servant Macky stated that the accused ras found drunk with /two bottles of ••hisky in his possession. A fine of £1 ith costs 7s was inflicted. Rescotno a Horse. — T. Trestrail was barged with having rescued^ a horse aken by the cattle ranger to' impound, defendant did not appear, but admited the offence in a letter to the Magis-•-ate. A fine of 5s with costs lie was nflicted. * Breaches of the Fisheries Act. — eonard iu'Alister (Mr Leathern) *yr&e harged with not having the name, llace and- number of his fishing boat minted on the outside of the boat in -tters 3in in length. Mr Elliott ap»*ared for v the Marine Department. "Evidence taken «was to the effect' that he name, etc., were on a board inside *:he boat, and that it was passed bjr&n 'ispector under the Fisheries Act two ears ago. The case was dismissed. n he same defendant was charged with 'aving used a set net to take whitest. Mr Leathern defended. H. A. Wheeler, officer under the Fisheries \ct, stated that a hand net had been \ttached to defendant's boat in such a. vay as to cause it to act as a set net. The defence was that the net was worked by hand, and a string attaching it to the boat served to make it handier 'n manipulation. Mr Bailey reserved his decision. — In a similar case against i lad under sixteen years of age judgment was also reserved. — George ' Cook ind'M. Philips were charged with hav\ng used a device to prevent the movement of whitebait up or down stream. \fr Leathern appeared for the defendants. H. A. Wheeler stated that defendants were fishing with hand nets across a stream at Saltwater Creek in such a way as to obstruct the passage of the whitebait. The cases were dis--nissed.—Edward M. Boyco was charged "with having taken whitebait in a "paddock " fenced by a groin in the Saltwater Creek. He pleaded guilty, and was convicted and discharged. — For using a set net to take whitebait Norman Gillies, who did not appear, was convicted without a fine; and for using a device to prevent the whitebait from moving up and down stream, he was fined £1 with 17s costs.
