OPERA HOUSE.

WIDE WORLD PICTURES. West's Pictures set a high standard in the kinematograph world, and the Royal Pictures gave the public a great deal of variety in the matter of films, but they are overshadowed by the Wide World Pictures, which were shown at the Opera House last evening. The lilms were shown by Mr B. Haugliton, and were under, the direction of Mr Harry Liston, and proved to be the most interesting series of pictures that has been shown in Christchurch. " A Russian Bear Hunt " was a most interesting picture, and depicted in a real- 1 istic manner the scant ceremony that Bruin meets with in the land of bombs and anarchists. "The Tribulations of a Mayor " was also very good, and was among the best of the comic films shown. The dramatic pictures were particularly interesting, and, apart from being free from the cheaply sentimental, were strongly interesting. An incident of the American civil war was illustrated in a most realistic manner, the scenic effects being really good, whilst the parts were acted with a naturalness that was thoroughly convincing. By far the best item of the avening was a series of pictures representing the American fleet. The pictures showed the fleet entering the harjourof San Francisco, the great battleships looking like mites in the dis;arfce; a parade at San Pedro, in which the bluejackets were seen coming along i road from a great distance, and a 3attle of flowers that was one of the nost gorgeous of its kind that has been ihown on the screen. Among the hunorous pictures, "A Cold and Frosty Morning" was a distinct success, and ihe series was throughout a - particulary good one. At the Opera Hou6ethe >ictures are shown much more clearly ban they have been in other places.
