In Tasmania and on Kangaroo Island the emu, the " king of the Australian fauna," has become extinct, and the "Age" states that on the mainland the flocks are gradually becoming reduced in size. From Merino, in the Western district, the report came recently that the bleached skeleton of the last of tho emus in that district had been found. It seems, however, that large numbers of this fine bird have been discovered in the Grampians. The Ornithologists' Society of Victoria has received word to that effect from Mr Campbell, son of Mr A.
