Mrs Harriett La«ne Johnston, a niece of President Buchanan, is dead, says a. telegram (from New York, on July 4. When Sir Budhanao was tlbe American Minister to Great Britain, his niece accompanied him and became ai warm personal friend of Queen Victoria's, by whose crarinand she occupied the position of a Mindsceir's wife. When King Edward, as Primce of Wales, visited the United States, Mrs Johnston entertained him, at the White House, and when h& returned to England both he and the Queen sent her personal letters of thanks.
