LICENSING COMMITTEES.

RICCARTON. The Riccarton. Licensing Committee met at noon to-day ; present— Messrs W. R. . Haselden (chairman), A. Boyle, P. M. "Stewart, J. Moir and W. Gifkins. The police reports were satisfactory in all cases, and the renewals asked for were granted as follows I:—Black1 :— Black Horae Hotel, William Alfred Thacker; Belfast Hotel, David Midford Marshall; Bush Inn, William Coles Webb; Papanui Hotel, William Alfred Lawrence ; Riccarton Hotel, Timothy Keily; Phoenix Hotel, John Cooper; Star Hotel, Peter John Kelly; Racecourse 'Hotel, Murray Hobbs. "The hour of closing was fixed at 10 p.m., except in the case of the Star Hotel, which was granted an extension till eleven o'clock.

On the application of Mr H. D. Andrews, who appeared for. the licensee of the Black Horse Hotel, pel-mission was granted for the extinguishing of all lights at the hour of closing. There was 'no other business.

At the meeting of the Licensing Committee to-day all reaewaJs for Thames weTe granted. Several Coromandel. applications were adjourned, owing to" repairs not being completed. A new license was granted for an hotel at Cabbage Bay. GISBORNE, June 5.

The Licensing Committee altered the hour of closing from, eleven to ten o'clock. An additional wholesale license was granted to L. D. Nathan, Auckland. NEW PLYMOUTH, June 5.

At the annual meeting of tho Taranaki Licencing Committee, held this morning, all the licenses were Tenewed. With regard to the Hotel Commonwealth, New Plymouth, special conditions were imposed that a barmaid should 1 not be employed,, and that the hotel must be closed at ten o'clock.. The question of extending the closing hour till eleven o'clock for the other town houses was reserved till this afternoon.

WANGANUI, June 5. s The Licensing Committee granted all but one license to hotels. The latter was held\ over for consideration this afternoon. The police object to the license being granted, on the ground; of^ the licensee permitting faming, which wag the subject of a charge ismissed bv the magistrate yesterday. j * WELLINGTON-, June 5. At thS sitting of the Newtown Licensing Committee to-day, Mr Atkinson, on behalf of a large number of petitioners, claimed that the committee had no right to issue licenses. Argument is proceeding. The committee adjourned till three o'clock to consider the point raised as to whether the committee has jurisdiction to issue liceitees. T GREYMOUTH, June 5. At a meeting of the Licensing Committee yesterday the whole of the licenses, with the exception of four, which were adjourned, were granted. The police reported in regard to one hotel that it ought to "be entirely Tebuilt. The committee said that, in view of the unsettled state of public feeling on, the licensing quest/ion, it did not feel justified in asking anyone to lay out £4000. or £5000, and granted the license, intimating that at present all it woiild expect would be reasonable accommodation, cleanliness and strict compliance with the Licensing Act. ;
