ENTERTAINMENTS.

The Garrison ball was held at the Art Gallery last night, and proved a decided success. A strong committee of ladies had undertaken the decoration of the hall, which, as the result of their efforts and taste, presented a more than usually attractive appearance. The Garrison Band played selections which were greatly appieciated by those present. The arrangements were perfect, and 110 couples took part in the dancing, which was continued into the early hours of this morning. The honorary Secretary, Sergeant-Major Treleaven, was most energetic in his work, and Staff Sergeant-Major Barrett, Battalion Sergeant-Major Foster, Sergeant-Majors. Treleaven and Jone3 aud QuartermasterSergeant Lewin were untiring as stewards. ■ The dance music was supplied by Mr Fox's string band, and the catering was in the hands of Mr J. Buggey. St Luke's schoolroom was crowded last | night, when an entertainment was provided jin aid of the Sunday school treat. Two operettas, entitled respectively "Ali Baba 'and the Forty Thieves" and "Abou Hassan iine Wag" were effectively staged. Miss '•S..Lingard acted- as accompanist. The musical and elocutionary contests in • <sonnection with., the Canterbury Band of i Hope Union were continued in the Oddfel(lows' Hall last night. There was a very [large attendance.
