A DESTRUCTIVE TIDAL WAVE. The wave was accompanied by a terrific hurricane, and the town was totally destroyed. Three hundred of the inhabitamts perished, and the number rendered homeless is now said to be 20,000. At Guadaloupe the hurricane was very severe. There were many landslips, and twenty persons were killed, (Barbadoes, a British possession in the West Indies, is one of the Lesser Antilles, and has an area of 166 square miles. It is frequently visited by violent hurricanes, which cause great dsunage. Its (population in 1891 was 182,000, but the majority of the inhabitants are negroes).
