Collie Doo Trial. — The Hanrner Plains annual collie dog trial has been fixed for May 13. Kaiapoi Eegatta Ball.— lt has been decided to postpone the ball iv connection with the Kaiapoi regatta until Easter week. Easter Monday Sports. — At a meeting of delegates at Kaiapoi a provisional programme of thirty-three items was drafted for Easter Monday sports. A number of trophies have been already received from business men in Christchurch. Borough Election. — An election was held at Kaiapoi yesterday to fill the vacancy caused by Councillor Blakely's retirement from the Borough Council. The voting was:— W. Eagle 77, T. Drabble 60, J. Stanton 59. There were four informal votes. Akaroa Coach Accident. — Mr H. G. Turner, recently very seriously injured in the Akaroa coach accident, is improving, and hopes are now entertained of his ultimate recovery. Mr and Mrs Fahey volunteered to give up their house entirely to the patient and his attendants. Methven Collie Club.— At a meeting held on Saturday last, it was decided to hold trials during the month of April at a date to be fixed. Messrs C. P. MurrayAynsley, J. Batty and A. Orr were reelected president and vice-presidents, and Mr C. P. Lock secretary and treasurer. Owing to the non-payment of subscriptions, the balance-sheet showed a deficiency of £3 3s. A letter from Mr A. Orr, containing a donation of £2 2s, was received. The Weather. — Our Ashburton correspondent writes : — The weather still continues fine, and the country everywhere is suffering very much for want of rain. Farmers, instead of being able to buy stock for their stubbles and for breeding lambs, are all short of feed, and want to- reduce, instead of increase their stock. Every kind of farm work is at a standstill for want of rain. A telegram received from Hokitika last night, says that after nearly a month's hot dry weather, rain has again set in, and that water is badly wanted by the miners.
