MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

__♦ A meeting of the Women's Political Association was held in the Women's Christian Temperance Union rooms last night. Sir John Hall wrote, acknowledging the Association's cordial vole of thanks for his efforts on behalf of the Bill for enabling women to vote on vestries, and expressing his conviction that the reform would before long be adopted. Mrs Cooper Avas unanimously appointed to represent the Association at the session of the National Council to be held at Wellington next month. The discussion of a nutnbar of motions forwarded by the executive of the National Council concluded the business. .. ■ ' The seventeenth half-yearly meeting of the Working Men's Co-operative Society was held last evening. Mr H. Chaplin presided, and there was a fairly good attendance. The profit and loss account showed a profit on the half-year's working of .£222 2s 8<?, which it was proposed -to distribute in the way of bonuses. The report recorded the deep regret of the Society at the sudden death of Mr E. Sandford, a late coinmitteeman. A small store had been opened at Kaiapoi, and a steady improvement in the results from the drapery, furniture, boot and shoe departments of the (Jhristchureh branch was recorded. The report was amended by striking out the bonus and carrying forward the amount. The election of officers resulted as follows :— President, Mr Efford ; vice-president, Mr M'Kellow ; trustee, Mr Dursonj committeemen for two years, Messrs Chaplin, M'Cullough and Ardley ; conrnutteeman tor ssx months, Mr Higgins ; auditor, Mr Staniland. A special motion ot regret was passed in connection with ™c death of the late Mr E. Sandford.
