THE VOLUNTEERS.

A company parade at the Canterbury Engineers was held last evening. There were forty-two on parade under Captain Dongall. Lieutenant Bridgman, the chaplain (the Key W. S. Bean), and Staff-Sergeant-Major Purvis were also present. The corps were exercised in company drill and bridge-building, and also overhauled the stores in preparation for the Easter encampment. The annual meeting of the Christ's College Rifles will take place on Thursday, March 24. ; A meeting of the volunteer non-com-missioned officers of the North Canterbury District will be held in the club-room, at the Drillshed, at eight o'clock this evening. The.E Battery paraded last night, when there was a muster roll of fifty men. After the parade the annual meeting was held, and Lieutenant Cowlishaw presided. The report of the General Committee dealt with the work done during the year, and congratulated the corps on being well up to its maximum strength. Its financial position was not so satisfactory. The receipts were i>2lß 12s 6d, and the expenditure .£193 11s 9d, leaving a balance in the Bank of .£25 Os 9d, against which there were liabilities amounting to .£93 Os 4d, of which* the Sumner camp was responsible for £50. The capitation earned amounted to £14:2, leaving about .£7O to go on with. The report was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows : — Finance Committee, SergeantMajor Treleaven and Sergeant Jenkins; general committee, Sergeants Eose and Johnston, Corporals Lezard and Watldns, Gunners Smith and Idiens, and Eangetaker Stokes ; auditors, Sergeant Simes and Gunner Idiens ; firing committee, Sergeant-Major Treleaven, Sergeant Eose, Corporal Lezard, and Gunners Munns, Juriss, Stokes, Smith and Johnston. The usual honorarium, was voted to the Secretary for his services during the past year. It was decided that £5 should be given to the winners in the Martin cup competition. It was resolved that the annual smoke concert should be held next Tuesday.
