TEMPLETON.

I The monthly meeting of this Board was held at the office, Yaldhurst, on Monday ; present— Messrs Carpenter (chairman), J. Carr, W. Bailey, G. Witty and W. J. Guy. Correspondence was read : From the Commissioner of Taxes and the PaymasterGeneral relative to the payment of .£2l 17s 3d, balance of subsidy for 1806-7, which had been placed to credit of the Board's current account. From the Valuer-General, requesting an application from the Board for a copy of the valuation roll for rating purposes. The Clerk was instructed .to apply for this as required. From Mr W- S. Smith, asking permission, to make an open crossing on Kaiapoi; Junction Eoad, for water-race purposes.' The Surveyor's report being favourable, the application was granted subject to the usual conditions. Tenders were received for a five years' lease of Eeserve 263, lately in the occupation of the late John Collings, and that of Mr J. E. Cunneen, £7 per annum, . was accepted. The Clerk was directed to write to Mr W. A. M'Laren, calling liis attention to the infringement of the by-law relating to the traffic of traction engines on the West Coast Eoad, more particularly in regard to travelling in ruts formed by his or other traction engines, as in default the Board will be bound to protect itself by lodging an information. The Clerk was instructed to inquire of the Commissioner of Crown Lands if the survey of Eeserve 330, contemplated in 1896, had been completed, and the three acres to be set apart as a gravel reserve as then resolved had been yet dedicated to this purpose. Tho Surveyor's report upon the condition of the Main South Eoad was considered, and after much discussion the Board proposed to at once inspect the portion extending from Islington to Eiccarton Church, for the purpose of deciding the means to be adopted for efficient repairs before the winter weather set^n. The Clerk, having accepted the appointment of district valuer, submitted his resignation, which was accepted with regret. A schedule of duties for his successor was fully discussed, and it was decided to advertise accordingly, applications to be returnable on April 4. Accounts for ,£142 14s ld were passed, and the meeting terminated.
