This Board met on March 7 ; present — all the members. The following correspondence was read : From the Commissioner of Taxes, advising that the sum of .£ls 7s 6d; balance of subsidy for the years 1896-7, had been paid to the Board's account. From the Chief Surveyor asking particulars of the expenditure of thirds accrued from deferred payment sections. The Clerk was ordered to furnish the particulars asked for. From the ValuerGeneral, as to new valuation rolls made under the Government Valuation of Land Act, 1896. It was resolved that application should be made under provisions of Section 9 of the Act, for a valuation roll for the district. From Mr W. Everett calling attention to broken planks m the Whitecliffs Bridge. The Surveyor stated that this matter had been attended to. A list of unpaid rates amounting to -.3 Os Id was considered, and the collector was authorised to sue for them. It was resolved that the Surveyor should report to ,the County Council upon the condition of the Coalgate and Whitecliffs Bridges, and suggest that members of the Council and the Board should meet and inspect them. The tender .of J. Blade for forming eighteen chains on Sheate's Eoad, at 7s 9d per chain, was accepted. The' manager of the Hororata water-races attended with his report, which was read and considered. The tender of S. Gibson for constructing three concrete culverts on water-races, for the sum of _822, was accepted.
