HOSPITAL BOARD.
SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Hospital Board was held this morning ; present— Mr R. D. Thomas (chairman) and Messrs J. Hamilton, G. Wallace, J. Dobson, G. Wolff, C. F. Money, E. Westenra, E. Hadfield, W. Dunlop, J. G. Murray and 6. Payling. Mr Hadfield, in pursuance of notice, moved — " That the resolution passed at the Board's meeting of Jan. 26 last, authorising the House Committee to procure a duplicate Worthington pump, be rescinded, so that the Board may be enabled to call for tenders for a similar pump of local manufacture/ In moving the resolution, he urged that, if such a pump was required, it should be obtained locally, so that the Board should, where possible, spend its money where it was raised. He pointed . out that Messrs Scott Bros, had undertaken to make a similar pump at a cost of £30 less than the imported article. Mr Dunlop seconded the motion. , Mr Westenra said he had gone into the matter, and had come to the conclusion that there was no immediate necessity tor another pump, as the system under which the two Worthington pumps were required had been altered, and the Taneye pump already on the premises wouldwithafewrepairs do all that ™s required as a stand-by He su-gested that Mr Hadfield should alter Ws motion so as to defer the purchase of another pump for the present.
