MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The Pioneer Lodge of Druids bald its usual meeting on Monday. There was a very large gathering,, including the newly-elected Grand Lodge officeus, and officers and members- of the Hope of St Albanß and Mistletoe Lodges, the occasion being the presentation, of a P.D.P. collar to Bro H. E. Smith,. Past Distriot President, No. 1 District.. The proceedings were enlivened with songs, by Broß Eose > Harris, Swinnerton, Marriott, Brown and Smith, a duet by Bros A. Hutton and Willsteed, a dance by Bro Davidson, and cornet solos by Bro F. Fox. The presentation was made by District Grand President Bro. W. H. Manhire. Refreshments were handed round during the evening. One candidate was initiated. Sick pay was passed. The representatives' report was li6ld over until next Lodge night. After other routine business, the Lodge was closed at 11 p.m.

A woman died at Ronisey, England, rei cently, ,aged seventy-four, who had passed the whole of her life in the workhouse of that town, in which establishment she was born, being an imbecile, and the child of an imbecile mother. This poor woman is believed to have cost the local ratepayers about .£I2OO.
