It was decided to take no action \intil the Department's further advice should be received, when it would be oecessary to make urgent representations with regard to the need of teachers' houses, and to the large ; number of buildings to be kept in repair. A letter was received from the com* mittee to the the effect that Miss Budden had not received notice of their intention to take evidence in the matter of Mr Wrenn's complaint, owing to the fact that Miss Budden had written a letter emphatically stating that she had sot struck Leonard Wrenn on; the face with a book, j and that all the committee had done was to take evidence in support of the complaint, which, together with a copy of Miss Budden's letter, had been forwarded to the Board. It was pointed out to the committee that the Board could not act upon evidence taken in the absence of the accused. It was also resolved that the "pointer" incident appeared too ancient to be discussed, and that with regard to the complaint of having struck the boy with a book, which the mistress denied, the whole matter was of too trifling a nature for further and serious consideration. The report was adopted on the motion of Mr Weston, seconded by Mr Westenra. SCHOLARSHIPS. The Gammack scholarship of iB6O, tenable for three years,- at the Girls' High School, was awarded to Miss Mabel Connon. The Board further decided to grant Miss Lulu Wilkinson a proportionate amount of a £40 scholarship for the four winter months, to enable her to attend school while living at home, also that Percy Prebble's scholarship should be of the amount of .£4O per annum. A letter from the School Committees' Association, in reference to the Board's decision regarding students' allowances, was referred to the Normal School Committea for report. The annual report of the Board to the Education Department having been read and approved, -the Board, at 1.30, went into committee to consider a supplementary report from the Appointments Committee, and on resuming adjourned.
