MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
« At a meeting of the executive of the Salesmen's Association it was decided to take active steps to collect the outstanding subscriptions. The Secretary reported that two persons had joined since last meeting, the number on the roll now being fortyseven. It was decided to write and inquire the reason of the delay in the return of the Association's rules, which had been forwarded to Wellington for registration. After transacting routine business the meeting closed. A meeting of the executive officers of the Progressive Liberal Association was held last evening. The President occupied the chair. The draft qtmrterly report was read i and ordered to be placed before a specially convened meeting of the committee before its presentation to the fourteenth quarterly general meeting of members. After transacting a quantity of business in preparation for the quarterly gathering of members the meeting closed. At the meeting of the Socialist Church on Thursday evening, the attendance wa3 small, owing to the rough weather. Mrs Blake presided. It was agreed to postpone the discussion of the subject, " Man and the Machine," till next ovening. The Secretary was directed to write to Messrs Murscheim aud Singer, welcoming them to New Zealand, and offering the services of the Socialist Church should they visit Christchuroh. The following resolution was passed : " That this meeting expresses a hope that the publication of the Socialist may not be discontinued, and offers to assist in getting the names of those people who are willing to contribute one shilling or more per month to its support."
