SOUTH ISLAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the South Island Trotting Association was held last evening; present — Messrs P. Selig (chairman, Hokitika), A. Walker (Tahuna Park), A. L. Myers; W. G-. Garrard (Ahaura), F. Mulholland (Plumpton Park), J. Lukey (Timaru), and W. Eollitt (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs' Howell and Grierson. The Southland Trotting Club wrote, stating that Mr George King had been appointed delegate for th&clnb. The owner of August wrote, asking that his deposit lodged with the appeal against Sterling Lad; and which had been impounded, should be refunded. He explained that, on account of having to leave to catch a train, he had been unable to come before the Association and give evidence. It was decided to take no action in the matter. With reference to the levy in the Thunder-bolt-Schoolboy case, the North Island Trotting Association wrote that it had not yet held a meeting to collect the money from its clubs. It was decided to request the North Island Association to forward the amount as soon as possible. The South Island Association decided to forward to the Greymouth Club the money it had to hand. The Nelson Jockey Clnb wrote asking for information with regard to two horses nominated by telegram for trotting races for which the fees had not been paid It was decided to reply regretting that the Association could give nc information, and to point out tht necessity for strictly carrying out thf rales. the acfcion,.of the Roxburgh Jockey Club in awarding the stakes in a trotting race to the second horse, on the ground that his ™rae had galloped past the post. It was decided, on the motion of Mr F. Mulnolland, seconded by Mr A. Walker, to write to the club asking what distance the second horse was behind the horse that finished first. The Secretary of the Tahuna Park Trotting Club wrote asking for the Association's opinion on the conditions of the race for the Tahuna Park Cup. The conditions were that the firat three horses in each heat were eligible to start in the final, provided they were not distanced. The question was, if a third horse outside the distance passing a second horse inside the distance' before the latter reached the post, became entitled to either start in the final or to receive second money. It was decided to reply that the fact of the Horse being distanced put it out of the race. The .Wesfcport Trotting Club , was affiliated to the! Association, and its programme for May 24 passed. The following other ' programmes were passed :— Canterbury Trotting Club, May 19 and 24 ; Kumara Racing Club, April 11 and 12 (one trotting race each day) ; North Canterbury Jockey Club, April 28 (two trotting races). In the last case the programme was passed conditionally on the fees being received. Several licenses were granted, and other applications were held over. It was decided, in accordance with Rule 20, to disqualify all horses, with their owners, trainers, drivers and riders, that had taken part at recent unregistered meetings. The meeting then closed.
