AUCKLAND NEWS.

(Tkr Press Association. I AUCKLAND, Jan. 8. To-day, evidence was heard by Mr Brabant, S.M., in the extradition proceedings for the arrest of Dr Orpen. The witnesses who gave evidence at the inquest were examined. Mr S. Percy Smith, the SurveyorGeneral, returned to-day per . the Ovalau from Samoa. He has visited Honolulu, as well as other groups, and acquired a large amount of information concerning the ancient migrations of the Maori people, which he intends publishing in the Polynesian journal. He leaves for Wellington on Monday.
