SYDENHAM.
A meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held last evening ; present—the Mayor, Councillors Halley, Taylor, Muffett, Hadfield, Large, Jacques, Lafferty, Hirtzell, Manhire, Bell and Cutler. Correspondence was received from Messrs T. E. Taylor, Butcher, J. French, Stringer and Cresswell, the Sydenham Cricket Club, and the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The Works Committee reported that it could not recommend the asphalting of the footpath on the west •side of Cadogan Street until «ome houses ■were erected on the adjoining sections. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts were .£458 18s lOd, and recommended payment of accounts amounting to £190 13s lid. The balances of accounts at the bank were— Credits: Separate trusts accotints .£372 13s lid, loan interest account .£747 11s sd, loan account .£3174 5s Id; debit: General account .£4168 11s 7d. The report was adopted. The Clerk was instructed to write to the railway authorities, drawing attention to the rotten state of the Madras Street footbridge Councillor Cutler moved and Councillor Lafferty seconded—" That the children of ratepayers and residents of Sydenham attending public or private schools have the privilege of ushag the bath under the proper supervision of a teacher of such school, and at times to be arranged." Tho motion was put and carried unanimously. It was decided to close the offices on Dec 16, 25. 27, and Jan. 1. The Council then went into committee.
