ST ALBANS.
A meeting of the St Albans Borough Council was held last night ; present — His Worship the Mayor and Councillors Money, Penteney, Glass, Charlewood, Morgan, Neate, Hill, Davey and Keig. The report of the Finance Committee showed—^Receipts since last meeting, .£484 3s lid ; expenditure, .£358 12s lldj debit balance at bank, .£sll 10s. The report was adopted. The report of the Works Committee conveyed a vote of censure on the Clerk for allowing earth to be removed against the express wish of the Council. The report was adopted. The slaughterhouse report, which dealt severely with the condition of one of the slaughterhouses within the borough, -was also adopted. The Agricultural | and Pastoral Association calledtheattention of the borough to the growth of barley grass and other noxious wgeds. The letter was referred to the Works Committee. A renewal of slaughterhouse license was granted to Mr A. S. Ford on condition of the -completion of the improvements re- ■ quired by the Inspector. The Chairman! moved th« following resolution with regard ' to loan proposals, which was seconded by Councillor Penteney, and carried — " That tbe Works and Finance Committees, with the Chairman of the Lighting and Sanitary Committees, be a special committee to formulate loan proposals for placing before the ratepayers ; to report to the Council, if possible, at its next ordinary meeting." On the motion of Councillor Charlewood, seconded by Councillor Davey, it was resolved — " That a committee be set ap to consider the question of theadvisableness of the whole or a portion of the borough seeking amalgamation with the city, to report upon the conditions upon which such amalgamation can be brought about, if advisable. The committee to consist of the three chairmen of committees, the Mayor, and the mover." It was resolved that the meeting called for noon on Wednesday for the installation of the Mayorelect should be adjourned until 8 p.m.
